Perfection Killer

Do you remember those Sunday evenings at the nail salon where the sound of nail files scratched, and the smell of acetone stung the roof of your nostrils…you would catch several glimpses of the cheese and bright illustrations and photography placed around the plastered walls. It’s funny because a lot of the illustrations you would see would be by the same exact painter, and you would have NO idea.
I’m sure he never meant to be such a trades art-icon, but Patrick Nagel’s 80’s fashion illustrations have grown quite the popularity with beauticians and cosmotologists. Don’t lie. First look at the art and you KNOW what it reminds you of!
I’m actually a huge fan of Patrick’s illustrations! The art-deco influence, and the strong color pallet makes for a very impressionable piece of work. His many drawings of beautiful, basicly FLAWLESS women could be seen all through out Play Boy, and contributed to the gentleman magazine with his ” Nagel Woman” segments, and later was applauded for his iconic CD cover he did for 80’s pop group Duran Duran.Funny little fact: One of Misslawn’s cousins was actually friends with Patrick Negal and had an original ‘Negal’ painting of herself. Jealous!
Though the artist is no-longer bringing us his bright, sexual illustrations of the woman we all wish to be, his work will forever leave a lasting impression and continue to inspire designers and artist many years to come.

I found one of his prints in an antique store last summer. I would’ve gotten it if it weren’t $80 and if it could fit on the plane back
