I walk into the gym like any normal day but in my chest is a cocaine heartbeat.   I take 7 seconds to scan the room when finally my eyes find exactly what they’ve been looking for – her face.   She’s laughing and conversing with the girl to her right but I want nothing more than for her to laugh and converse with me.  

Be cool.  Be normal. 

I walk into the room and catch her eye.  “Hey!” she says.  “Hey.”  I make it over to my usual spot but its taken.  I look over at her and there’s an open space to her left.  Hmmm.   I stand there for longer than I should have thinking about what I want to do.   Do I ask these nice people to make space for me in my normal spot or do I sit in a spot I don’t like, but next to HER?   I make my decision.

“Do you mind if I sit here?” I casually say.  

Be cool.  Be normal.

She looks up at me and smiles.   She didn’t answer my question. 
“Are you saving this for anyone?”
“No.” 
“Hi, I’m Noah.”
“Allie.  Nice to meet you.” 

Her name is Allie!  My name is Noah!  We were destined to be together in The Notebook…. maybe its a sign.  Maybe.  Her hand finds mine and we shake on it.  

By the time class is over, I’ve gone over 31 different things to say to her.   I decide to go with “Nice job today.” 

“Huh?  Nah, I can’t seem to focus today.”
“Why not?”
“Because… you make me nervous.” 

I make her nervous.  I MAKE HER NERVOUS!   If only she knew….She can know.  Tell her.  Say something.  Say something now!  Say anything damnit!!!  The only thing I can muster up to come out of this ridiculously large smile is…

“I’m glad.” 

“I’m shootin’ for her heart, got my finger on the trigger.
She could be my broad, and I could be her n****”
