“Oh I wish I were an Oscar Meyer weiner
that is what I’d truly like to be-ee-ee.
And if I were an Oscar Meyer weiner
Everyone would be in love with me”

*Sigh*  It’s true.    I love hotdogs.   The bigger the better (thats what she said) Gourmet hot dogs, specifically.  So, here’s my list of top 5 hot dog places from everywhere I’ve been. .. is your favorite hog dog place on here???

5.  Gray’s Papaya – NYC.

I first heard about Grey’s when I saw that movie “Fools Rush In” with Chandler Bing from F.R.I.E.N.D.S and Salma Hayek aka the sexiest vampire EVER.     So when I first made my way over to the east, i had to try it.   The Recession Special lets you have 2 dogs and a drink but as of late, its apparent that even this special isn’t recession-proof.     In a pinch and on the go, these are perfect for snacking.

4.  Wurstkuche – Los Angeles

I added this one for Abi, because if she’s into anything.. its brats and brews.   Everything from snakes and alligators to plain old’ brats can be found here… and order with some truffle oil fries and a beer and you got a party in Abi’s panties.   (abi, u know i love you. lol)

3.  Puka Dog – Honolulu

if you’ve seen the Travel channel’s “No Reservations”, you’ve seen Puka Dog.   In the middle of waiks, straight in the tourist heavy International Market Place, you’ll find one of my favorite hot dogs on the planet.  They have a ton of options but for me — Spicy, Mango Relish, Guava mustard and lilikoi lemonade FTW!   the buns are done parisian style toasted from the inside out and for all my pescatarians and my vegetarians, they have veggie dogs too!   hana hou!

honorable mention goes out to Hank’s Haute Dog, also in Honolulu also serving up buffalo dogs, foie gras dogs, and classic Chicago dogs.

2.  Japadog –  Vancouver.

the only thing that makes this place # 2 on my list is the simple fact that it’s from a street cart, and i firmly believe that hot dogs are street food.    i really have nothing better to say other than the list of ingredients on this dog.   This is the most popular, Terimayo.   A jalapeno and cheese smokie is grilled to perfection, put  on a sesame seed roll, and topped with teriyaki sauce, japanese mayo, and seaweed.  BADUMBUM!

1.  Ghetto Dogs – SF Streets (and LA, and prolly ur city too)

I know you’ve met the ghetto dog.    Stumbling outside of your favorite club on a Saturday night and this smell meets your nostrils like the breath of a goddess.  In your drunken stupor you almost can’t pinpoint where it is, until you bump into the line.  You mumble an apology to whoever u just ran over, and open ur eyes as wide as Mr. Jose Cuervo lets you.   There it is, in all its glory.   Bacon wrapped hot dogs, sizzling on a street cart next to a plethora of onions, peppers, and chiles.   God is good, and life is grand.   Lets just hope you don’t throw it up, eh!

and there u go, yo.   Where my dogs at?  (pun intended)  hahaha.. ok, let me shut up now.

What’s amazing about the Ghetto Dog, is we even have them in London, except here they’re pretty much the sole supplier of hot dogs. Too good for words.
