The next big leap for Windows 11 has started on the wrong foot, and hasn’t even been launched. Microsoft requirements that are inconsistent and unclear have made people scratch their heads. The last word on the PC with an Intel and AMD processor is still in the air at this point, but the story for arm-based devices is much simpler. It seems that only the Qualcomm Snapdragon chip is officially supported, but it hasn’t stopped some developers from running Windows 11 on other arm devices, including the Lumia 950 XL old.
That Lumia 950 XL will run the full version of Windows 11 may not be surprising for many Windows fans lately. The telephone, which was launched back in 2015, initially ran Windows 10 Mobile. Thanks to the efforts of some very difficult developers and modders, in the end it is possible to run Windows 10 Full On Arm Experience on it.
One of the developers was Gustave Moncce and, it was not surprising, there was some interest in seeing the Lumia 950 XL running Windows 11 too. Developers make fast and dirty videos showing that, leaving it to viewers to assess whether it is indeed faster than Windows 10. In addition to the consideration of performance, it is still impressive to see Windows 11 work almost without obstacles in the six years old telephone.
Reddit users Thespeedcat tried the same but on Raspberry Pi 4 instead. Arm-based devices, running on the Broadcom processor, can run various forms of Windows 10, including IoT Edition and even the full version is unofficial. It is noted that this system feels faster with Windows 11 than Windows 10.
That said, the image used for this experiment was based on the previous Build Windows 11, which might be very far from the final version. It is also unknown what requirements will be owned by Windows 11 for ARM64 devices because it is not possible Microsoft will allow the operating system to be installed on hardware that is not supported.
