Today (Tuesday), the first ever British Airways jet will be arriving at its new customer service hub at London’s Heathrow Airport. The airline has delayed the official launch of its new London -bound flights by two days due to bad weather conditions forecast for the area. The delay was given to allow extra time for the aircraft to make its final preparations.
British Airways’ first ever BAC 9 jet will be the test aircraft for the airline’s new low-cost series of flights to Canada. The airline has been testing the new technology with the older version of the 787 Dreamliner – the aircraft which has been grounded since mid-air due to a fatal crash last year. The new BAC 9 will now be undergoing its first ever post-delivery service check, which involves the long-awaited look-over of the entire fleet of the aircraft which has accumulated nearly four decades of flying experience. Once it has successfully completed its full examination, the aircraft will be scheduled to carry out its first customer voyage to Montreal, as the BA9000 on Tuesday October 1st.
As per BA’s end, the new Canadian terminals at London’s Heathrow and London City airports will be equipped with everything that is needed to service the BAC 9 flights. Passengers will be able to board the airplane upon arrival as long as they have a valid passport and visa. Once all the checks are over, the plane will then be handed over to the maintenance department and the pilot will take over from there. It should be noted that this flight will not be landing at the airport. It is due to carry out a series of operations over the Atlantic Ocean in order to complete the training requirements for the Canadian airlines to become certified as a member of the British airways’ fleet.
This is the second flight of the BAC 787 aircraft. In fact the first one was also scheduled for this destination but was delayed at the last minute. This time around the BA will be testing the newest model, the LSTON, which can seat up to 332 passengers. The plane will then be delivered to its destination on schedule, which means that passengers will no longer have to wait for the next available flight. The delivery of the aircraft will be made around the middle of November.
It should be noted that the schedule for passenger flights to Canada will start from the Thursday of October and finish on Monday, so passengers will have plenty of time to plan their vacations accordingly. For those travelling from other major cities in the world, a direct flight to London may not be feasible. There are a number of airlines that fly to the city, including Continental Airlines, British Airways, US Airways and Air Canada. The cost of tickets and the exact details will depend on the individual airline or even between different airlines as per their routes.
The British airways will be introducing even more interesting features on the 787 aircraft. Passengers are expected to experience a completely new cabin interior with a completely new look. The cabin crew has also undergone a complete makeover with all the latest gadgets and modernized equipment. You can also expect an improved safety record given the strict standards that have been put into place. These aircraft will carry business class passengers as well as first class passengers, depending on the budget that one has.
