“Memorial Day”

Posted by Brittany on September 18th, 2009

Remember how I was talking about how amazing the 90’s were? You know, the Clueless post? I realize that I was a youngin’ ( still am) back in the days, but I was definitely old enough to realize how cool the fashion and the life style was. Honestly? I would give anything to grow my hair out super long just so I could have an excuse to to wear fluorescent scrunchies on my wrist every day…now, I would just look ridiculous with my little boy hair cut. And I miss the good ol’ days when there was awesome TV shows on Nickelodeon like – All That, Ren and Stimpy, and Pete and Pete.

These may be on some peoples list of fashion faux pas, but I would give anything to rock these looks without someone thinking I look crazy. Here’s some of my favorites:

1. Those awesome platform sneakers I just ‘had to have’…seriously, I cried in the middle of the sketchers outlet store because my parents refused to buy me the red sneakers I wanted.

2. Body art/Rhinestone designs. Back in the day, I was on a dance team, and we were COVERED in rhinestone stickers. My mother wonders why I have such a fascination with covering myself in tattoo’s when she was the one who insisted on covering me with rhinestone hearts and stars.

3. Body glitter….enough said.

4.Butterfly clips. I can guarantee every girl and her mother had a package of these hair accessories. I remember my mother giving me fake corn-rolls with these babies and I sported the hell out of them. So proud. Someone bring this look back, please.

5. The Loony Toon t shirts that made Bugs Bunny look like a straight up thug. I had like 9.

Clarissa Explains It All. The definition of 90’s greatest fashion. This one look seriously DEFINES what I looked like as a child. The ridiculous graphic t shirt with some weird colored human figure doing crazy poses with other weird colored human figures.

What was your favorite look you sported before the madness of y2K?

I loved 95! I’m a dude, so when I saw skateheads outta L.A., S.F. and N.Y. for the first time at slam city in Van my mind got blown! I can’t pinpoint a particular quirky style but I do remember everyone looking so fresh and legit. Some influential people to me at the time were Kareem Campbell and everyone from the World camp. I could go for days on this. Fun post, peace!
