Girl, you winter time fine..

I live in Canada…. and even if I’m in the warmest part of it.. (Vancouver).. it STILL gets cold… (sigh) & I hate being cold! Anyway, what I hate even more is when my skin reacts to it like crazy! Just wanted to share what I do to keep the crazy at bay.. Hope this helps!

1. EXFOLIATE. Obviously! But this is key and goes together with moisturizing. Slough off the dead skin cells by using a loofah, or a scrubbing glove. You can add a bit of sea salt with your soap to help scrub things off or just get a bottle of an exfoliating body scrub. I like Neutrogena’s body scrub in pink grapefruit. Smells. so. YUM! But don’t forget your face too… I would get a gentle face scrub and make it a weekly routine. Try mixing honey + lemon + fine sea salt… Honey & lemon fades scars so why the eff not? This little mixture is also good for exfoliating your lips.

2. MOISTURIZE. Ok seriously, this one is a given obviously but I’m not just talkin’ lotion, baby. I’m sayin… do yourself a favour and get yourself some body / shower oil. My fave is Neutrogena Body Oil. Do this AFTER you’ve exfoliated… sneak some oil in there to get some smoothness in. This is amazing to do especially after you’ve shaved your legs and for on-the-spot treatment for dry elbows, knees and hands. You can also just simply step your game up with a moisturizing body gel or wash. Oil of Olay with Ribbons is my fave. For lips, my go to lip balm is Lip Medex. Stuff works amazing! If you want a bit of colour, the Burt’s & Bees Lip Shimmer also works really well. Don’t forget about your hair! There’s little hot oil treatment kits and deep treatment conditioners available at a drugstore /pharmacy near you.

3. PROTECT. I swear, I get these weird dry spots if I don’t put a face primer on during the winter months… forreal. This may sound gross but ever heard of Monistat Chafing cream?! This is the same stuff as the Smashbox Primer… but for 1/3 of the price. SCORE! After you’ve exfoliated, moisturized… this is the thing to do. I put a tiny amount of this silicone primer before I put my foundation on & let it dry for a minute or two. This ensures a smoother finish, controls oil and also makes your makeup last longer through the day. I put this on my elbows and my knees as well sometimes.. it just helps lock in the moisture.

Such an interesting tip on the Monistat primer idea! It doesn’t make you break out? I’m worried how my skin might react but it’s worth a try.

Hi Katey! As with everything else.. I always try to do a skin patch test. I put a small amount of the product on a qtip and rub it on the inside of my elbow… I usually wait about 3 days/72 hours to see if there is a reaction or not. Some allergy reactions are instant, or sometimes shows up a day or two later. (This is how I found out I’m allergic to normal sunscreen!) Anyway, if you’re allergic, you can always return the product. Drugstores are pretty understanding and will take it back- esp. if you say you’re getting a reaction.
Hope this helps <3
