Miss KL: Misslawn

Posted by misslawn on August 16th, 2012

Soooooo, unless you’ve been hiding under a rock OR totally cut off from the digital world, then you’ve gotta know that Karmaloop has branched off their womens business into it’s very own site, Miss KL… yaaaay, right?! Right. And on top of them launching MissKL, they’ve revamped their women’s blog, as well… adding some new faces to the roster of fab bloggers. They’ve brought Claw, Tabatha McGurr, Susie G, Jeannie V and …. drum roll please….. ME, on board!!!

I’m super excited to contribute to their site and give you guys another side of me in addition to Hellz + BOTB, me. I”ll be blogging about anything and everything… random things that pop into my head, things I’m feeling whether it be food, books, fashion, sex toys… you name it!!!

My first post is up… Click the image below, check it out, leave a comment and show me some love.

You wrote that blog post as if you’re proud to be “one of the boys,” which sounds like you absolutely are. Don’t you think that mentality is destructive? You are pitting girls against girls, when really, as a woman, you should be celebrating the fact that girls are amazing and should be banding together. Using menswear is a great way to express yourself and it can absolutely be empowering to own androgyny, but your entire self-congratulatory mindset of “yeah, I hang out with guys! I’m so cool!” is wrong. What you do is contribute to patriarchy and ultimately, you’re saying women just aren’t as good as men. If your excuse is that girls are “bitchy” or “catty,” than I’m just appalled. I really hope that’s not that case, but if it is, I hope you do know that it truly is destructive. You’re also not a special snowflake because you consider yourself to be “one of the guys.”

@Angelica… You definitely have the right to your opinion… it’s simply that… YOUR opinion. You do NOT know me, so by no means shall I pass judgment on how you think I am nor take offense to it.

But I think it’s imperative for me to say… I am neither a “special snowflake” nor do I feel as tho I’m “pitting girls against girls” and by NO means did I ever proclaim myself as being “so cool!” I’m the first to admit I’m the biggest dork… and you know what?! I don’t give a fuck, I really don’t.

i LOVE being a woman… absolutely LOVE it. I embrace being a woman and I’m a big supporter of women doing their thing. I’ve been in positions MANY of times where people tried to pit me against other females because of the business that I am in… I don’t fall into that kinda bullshit. I support my colleagues and have nothing but the utmost respect for them.

when I say that since growing I’ve been “one of the boys” it’s because… well I was. I was a semi-tomboy who had a super tight knit of girlfriends. What is wrong with that?!

Also, what’s wrong with being comfortable wearing my man’s flannel… fuck, I can wear what ever the fuck I want.

I don’t think that is mentally destructive at all… Does anybody else feel the same way?!

Wow @Angelica ur statements/comments/opinion on @misslawn are far from it. It’s like u looked at the title an ran with it and took it literally. Since Hellz Bellz, i have watched and read interviews of misslawn and she has always been one that celebrates being a female, a female in the industry and strongly supports and gives madd respect to her fellow female professionals.

@misslawn much respect to you, you easily could have deleated her comment. Ur reply is on point and if anyone knows about HB and BOTB, they know how much u love being a female and how much you want girls/woman to be empowered by your graphics, apparrel and all your collaborations.

I look at a snowflake as being unique and @misslawn you definely are!

  4. Dear Abi Says:

@angelica – i totally see where you’re coming from, i too think that a woman with no female friends sends out a red flag. and a lot of the time those who say it’s because most females are catty, are usually the catty ones! but if you took the time to do a little homework on lawn, you’d see that she is just the opposite of what you pegged her to be based on a single post she wrote. in fact, the entire premise of hellz/botb is about female empowerment!
