“Made in China” Toy Soldier Portrait by Joe Black

Posted by HELLZ on July 26th, 2012

I’m a big fan of details especially when it comes to works of art. Although I do appreciate things done in more traditional ways, I find that I really have a soft spot for pieces like this. Mixed media, but on a whole different level.

This piece was named “Made in China” by artist, Joe Black. It took about 5,500 little toy soldiers to build this portrait of a young Chinese soldier. The original photograph was used on the front cover of LIFE magazine in January 1938 showing involvement of children in the Sino Japanese War.

This image is awesome. I love the closeup that lets you see all of the colorful plastic soldiers making up the whole.
