Blogger of the week: Ms. Fitz
Posted by Brittany on April 21st, 2011
Dang. It’s been a hot second since we’ve gotten our toes dirty in one of these posts. I felt pretty much OBLIGATED to bring it back since lately I’ve turned away from some of the more boring fashion blogs, while being introduced to some inspiring art centered blogs instead. Lately, I’ve found myself being utterly attracted to the fascinating works of Ms. Fitz – blogger, stylist, ARTIST, extraordinaire. Check out the interview we did with her, and don’t forget to check out her site!

Read her interview after the jump!
Who are you and what do you do? (Also, what do you do outside of blog)
My name is Ms. Fitz. I am an artist of multiple genres- working across fashion and music as a creative director and performer. I share my work, my inspiration and my personal style on my blog:

What is something (or someone) this is of constant inspiration to you?
My inspiration changes constantly, but there seems to be a theme throughout all my work- powerful women with mystical powers. Don’t cross her!

Why did you start to blog?
I started the blog as a way to connect with my family and friends as I left Australia on my move across the world to NYC to chase my dreams. It was an incredible two years traveling and hustling for a US visa- I lived in Europe and South America and it was a humbling, life changing experience. I was so far from my friends and family, there were times that I felt totally alone in a strange, far off land and my blog was a welcome and accessible medium to express my creativity through.
What’s your top 5 currently on your playlist?
ITS ALL CHEW FU ! That man is an electronic and house musical genius. But other than that I don’t get into a lot of current music- its Depeche Mode, New Order, Kraftwerk, and Tears For Fears, Dolly Parton, Boy George and ABBA. I like to describe my taste as New Wave Camp. haha

Is there a mantra that you tend to live by?
Surround yourself with positive people, and those who want what is best for you.
Describe your closet in one word:
Colorful!

What label would you choose to wear every day of your life?
The dollar bin at the Salvation motherfucking Army
Where do you see yourself 5 years down the road?
Happy, successful and colorful. And making some killer money!
What do you think is often times neglected in the blog world?
SOUL, authenticity.

What are you bored of/over when it comes to blogs?
I am really tired of bloggers who collect incredible images from all over the web and post them without crediting them! It makes me very cross! You didn’t create that! Show some god damn respect! Now get off my porch!
Socks with sandals…what is your take?
DO IT! If it makes you happy, then screw the rest of ‘em and their stupid rules. My dad does it all the time, often with mismatching sandals. I think on some level knows that its deemed unfashionable, but he just doesn’t give a fuck and I have major props for that. We’re talking about a man who dyes his $10 tennis shoes brown with tea bags here… he’s the epitome of anti-fashion and that’s what it’s all about, I reckon.

What is currently your guilty pleasure?
I eat A LOT of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, oh and that new J-Lo song PAPI (How fucking AWESOME IS IT?!)
If you could scavenge through someone’s closet who is famous – dead or alive, who would it be, and why?
mmmmm this is tough! I’d probably choose to hang out in the costume archives from the 70’s film adaptation of Flash Gordon.
